The Space - The Studio
Welcome to My Studio!
Hi there, I’m Alex, and this is where the magic of Alex a Mano happens! My studio is my creative sanctuary—filled with the buzz of tools, the warmth of tradition, and a whole lot of joy. I’m passionate about designing and handcrafting every piece of jewelry, and my studio is where it all comes to life.
Let me share a few of my favorite things about this space:
Tool Love:
I have a bit of a tool obsession (okay, maybe more than a bit!). But I’m not just someone who collects tools—I truly cherish every tool in my studio. It’s not about having all the tools in the world; it’s about loving the ones I do have. Many of my hand tools have been passed down from other jewelers or found in antique stores an even made by me, carrying with them a rich history and a past life that I’m honored to continue.
Let’s start with the stars of the show—my hammer collection. But these aren’t just any hammers; each one has a personality and a story to tell. My first hammer, Mr. Marty McHammer, was a gift from my dad, and it's a bit of a legend around here. He’s seen it all and still gets the job done with flair. The rest of the crew? Mmmm if they could only talk! Most of them have been passed down through generations, bringing with them a history of craftsmanship that I’m proud to continue.
Creative Vibes:
My studio isn’t just about tools—it’s a full sensory experience. A good mate (a traditional Argentine drink, a bit like a green tea) is always by my side, giving me the energy (and hydration) I need. With tunes from my younger years playing in the background, candles or incense setting the mood, and inspirational phrases on the walls reminding me of what’s important, I’m in the zone. It’s like a little cultural cocktail that keeps the creativity flowing, with a dash of persuasion when needed.
Vintage Treasures:
My studio is also home to some beloved vintage finds that add a touch of history and character. I’ve got a little collection of six vintage oil cans that I adore—each one with its own rustic charm. I might have to venture into making one myself one day! :)
And then there’s my pride and joy: an old Filli Cavallin rolling mill. I found this beauty at a yard sale, abandoned and rusty. With a lot of love and some serious elbow grease, I restored it to its former glory. Now it’s one of the most cherished tools in my studio, ready to roll out new creations and imprinting interesting patterns.
Every time I step into the studio, it’s like stepping into a world where tradition meets innovation, where stories are told through every hammer strike, and where every piece of jewelry is crafted with care and joy. Thanks for stopping by and getting a glimpse into the heart of Alex a Mano—where the magic happens!
